In the Garden

The In the Garden stole is inspired by the lovely fabric with flowers all over it.  Needing more Easter stoles, I decided to do this with the garden fabric and a choice of a yoke that has a white pattern of flowers extending the theme, or, for ordinary time, a solid spring green yoke with a lovely sheen..   It celebrates the beauty of spring, when we celebrate the resurrection, and the garden setting of the tomb, which is now empty.

Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.”  Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him in Hebrew,b] “Rabbouni!” (which means Teacher). ” (John 20:15b-16, NRSV.)

C. Austin Miles wrote In The Garden in 1913, both text and tune. The song reflects Mary Magdalene’s encounter with the risen Christ in the garden where he had been entombed, and the joy and peace she must have felt.

I’d stay in the garden with Him
Tho’ the night around me be falling;
But He bids me go; thro’ the voice of woe,
His voice to me is calling.
